Why I Fell in Love With AI Fashion: The Joy of Bringing Imagination to Life
I have always loved imagination.
Before fashion, before social media, before all the technology we have today, I spent many years in radio and television telling stories, creating moments, and connecting with people through words, images and emotion.
So perhaps it should not surprise anyone that I have fallen completely in love with AI.
Not because I want to replace what is real.
Quite the opposite.
I love it because it gives me a new way to celebrate what is real.
The Clothes Are Real. The Jewelry Is Real. The Imagination Is the Fun Part.
This is something I want my customers to understand very clearly.
The clothing and jewelry you see at Elsie in Naples are real pieces that we sell.
The silk dresses, the caftans, the embellished jackets, the necklaces, the pearls, the amber, the statement earrings—they are all real.
AI simply allows me to take those pieces and imagine them in places I may never have been able to photograph them.
A dramatic necklace can suddenly appear on a beautiful woman in Paris.
A fabulous caftan can be walking through a Mediterranean resort.
A glamorous woman can wear one of our necklaces beside an elephant in the jungle.
Three girlfriends can be laughing over jewelry in a beautiful boutique.
And sometimes, because I cannot help myself, we create something completely funny.
That is the part I adore.
Fashion Has Always Been About Fantasy
Think about the great fashion magazines.
For decades, fashion photography has taken us somewhere else.
A beautiful dress was never just photographed against a plain wall.
It was placed in Paris, on a beach, in a grand hotel, beside an old automobile, on a dramatic staircase or somewhere that made us dream.
AI has simply given small businesses like mine the ability to create some of that same imagination.
And I think that is extraordinary.
I can look at one necklace and think:
“What kind of woman would wear this?”
“Where is she going?”
“What is her story?”
And suddenly, a whole little world begins to appear.
That is where the magic starts for me.
At 70, I Am Still Learning Something Completely New
Maybe this is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.
I believe we should never stop learning.
We should never decide we are too old for technology, too old for creativity, too old to change, or too old to become fascinated by something new.
I am 70 years old, and here I am creating fashion stories with artificial intelligence.
And I am having the best time!
Some images work beautifully.
Some make me laugh.
Some come out completely wrong.
And then I try again.
There is something very freeing about being a beginner at something.
You do not have to know everything.
You just have to remain curious.
AI Gives Me Another Way to Tell a Story
When I choose pieces for Elsie in Naples, I rarely see them as simply merchandise.
I see a woman.
I see where she might wear the piece.
I imagine her at lunch with girlfriends, walking into a gala, traveling, going to dinner, sitting beside the sea or entering a room feeling fabulous.
AI helps me show you that story.
It gives me a visual language for something I have always done naturally in my head.
And perhaps that is why it makes me so happy.
It feels like storytelling and fashion came together in one place.
But Trust Matters to Me
I also understand that AI is new, and sometimes people wonder what they are looking at.
So I always want to be transparent.
When we use an AI-created fashion image, it is meant to inspire you and help you imagine how a piece can be styled.
When you shop with us, you are purchasing the actual merchandise.
And we will continue showing real photographs and videos of our pieces as well, because you deserve to see exactly what you are buying.
AI is not there to fool anyone.
For me, it is simply another creative tool.
Just like lighting, photography, styling, a beautiful location or a fabulous model.
Creativity Should Make You Feel Something
The greatest compliment someone can give me is not simply, “That is a beautiful picture.”
It is when someone says:
“That made me smile.”
“That reminded me of my girlfriends.”
“I want to be that woman.”
“Where is she going?”
“That is hilarious.”
Or, of course:
“I need that necklace!”
Then I know the story worked.
Fashion is emotional.
We do not simply buy clothes because we need fabric to cover our bodies.
We buy pieces because they make us feel something.
Beautiful.
Confident.
Elegant.
Playful.
Powerful.
Different.
Seen.
And if technology can help me create more of those feelings, I think that is something wonderful.
Never Stop Playing
Perhaps that is what I love most about this new chapter.
AI has reminded me to play.
To imagine.
To experiment.
To laugh when something goes completely wrong.
And to try again when I know the idea can become something beautiful.
We spend so much of adulthood being serious.
Sometimes we need permission to create simply because creation brings us joy.
So yes, I use AI.
I use it with curiosity.
I use it with transparency.
And most of all, I use it because it has opened another door for me to tell stories about women, fashion, beauty and confidence.
And at this stage of my life, I think opening new doors is one of the most beautiful things we can do.
Never stop learning.
Never stop imagining.
Never stop creating.
And never believe you are too old to fall in love with something completely new.
Live beautifully.
